EXA Ventures is a commercial social enterprise, founded in 2014 by Mrs. Doris Adoboe.

The inspiration for the company came to Mrs. Adoboe when she was working as a teacher in a rural part of Ghana. She wondered why so few students attended her class many days. Upon investigating, she found that many were ill so unable to come to school. She visited their homes and learned that the illness was malaria.

Although the families were using local citronella leaves prepared and rubbed on the children’s skin as a repellent, they still fell sick. Mrs. Adoboe was already making soap as a hobby, so she researched citronella and tried incorporating it into her soaps. She gave the soap to the school families and it was much more effective in protecting the children from mosquito bites and the malaria they carry. This was the start of EXA Ventures.

Since then, the company has focused on FDA-certified insect-repelling products such as candles and lotions as well as cleaning products. The company manufactures and sells the locally-made products under the Divine brand.

EXA Ventures also produces customized products for hotels, restaurants and special events.

It has retail and wholesale distributors in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda and Tanzania and continues to expand throughout Africa and beyond.

EXA Ventures is also involved in many community service activities:

Donates products to orphanages, schools and prisons
Screens school children and orphans for malaria
Educates about malaria prevention
Organizes local World Malaria Day and World Mosquito Day events
Employs new mothers with babies to sell products from their homes, to enable them to earn income
Engages disabled community members in production work
Trains and mentors young women rescued from trafficking and returned female migrants, reintegrating them into the community through a malaria eradication program and providing ongoing guidance
